| | Wednesday, June 30th, 2010: Matrices Right Fielder Hurt Júlio Ortíz at first refused to leave today's Liberty City-Municipality Matrix game after he suffered a fractured eye socket while making a defensive play. But his manager convinced him not to be foolish. "I want to be on the field," the feisty Municipality Matrix right fielder said. "I'll play through just about anything." Given time to reflect on the situation, he knew it was in his best interest to get immediate treatment. The injury is expected to keep Ortíz out of action for 2-3 months.
So far this year Ortíz is batting .273 with 16 home runs. | | Thursday, June 10th, 2010: McGinnity and Encarnación Traded The players apparently knew they were on the trading block, so it did not surprise one of them when he learned that he had been traded to Lanaya City. "Got my bags packed already," he said, when reached for comment. The Monarchs will receive 19-year old shortstop Leo Onions and 21-year old reliever José Encarnación, while 23-year old starting pitcher Benjamin McGinnity will go to the Municipality Matrix Matrices.
To date in 2010, McGinnity sports a 6-3 mark with a 3.30 ERA in 13 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .243 batting average and has 69 strikeouts in 76.1 innings.
