SimCity League Baseball News Article | | | Saturday, August 29th, 2009: Injury Ends Career of Irving Newell Alton reliever Irving Newell sustained a torn rotator cuff muscle throwing a pitch in yesterday's game against the Red Dragons. It was only later, at the local hospital, that the severity of the injury became apparent. While the Claymores team doctor was confident Newell would make at least a partial recovery, he was less optimistic about his future in baseball. "Professional ballplayers need to be in peak physical condition. Unfortunately, Irving will be affected by this injury for the rest of his life."
Newell's record up to now is 1-and-4 with no saves and a 7.36 ERA. He has given up 39 hits in 25.2 innings with 10 strikeouts. | |
